Anderson Estate Gift Presentation

In 1973, Methodist Memorial Homes received a large bequest from the Melvin and Selma Anderson Estate that enabled the facility to construct the South Health Care Unit. The gift consisted of 840 acres of land, the Andersons’ Holdrege residence and $120,000 in annuities and cash. This photo is of the presentation of the check and the abstracts of title to MMH. In the photo (left to right) are the following individuals: Arthur Case, MMH Administrator; Harold Lundeen, MMH Board of Directors President; Hannah Youngquist; sister of Melvin Anderson; Harry Dahlstrom, Executor of the Anderson Estate; and Evelyn Youngquist Dahlstrom, sister of Melvin Anderson.

Since the inception of the Memorial Homes project in 1947, the spirit of philanthropy has been the driving force behind the success of our facility. If not for the visionary leadership and financial contributions made by the first eight incorporating members of the Memorial Homes Project, as well as the support of the Holdrege community, our facility may never have become a reality.

It is through that same commitment from our donors, the Holdrege community and the surrounding area that Holdrege Memorial Homes has become the facility that it is today. The financial contributions made to our organization have allowed us to expand the resident population we serve from just 34 when we first opened our doors in 1953 to the 132 beds that we are licensed for today.

The Holdrege Memorial Homes Foundation was founded in 1989 and is dedicated to inspire, receive and administer benevolent gifts to ensure the financial support for the continued growth of Holdrege Memorial Homes and its Christian environment. Continued support of the Holdrege Memorial Homes Foundation helps assure the future of Holdrege Memorial Homes as we strive to provide state-of-the-art care for the most fragile citizens of Holdrege and the surrounding area, while remembering the value of treating people as the unique individuals that they are.

100% of all contributions made to the Holdrege Memorial Homes Foundation is dedicated to meeting the needs of caring for the residents of HMH, and will support direct programs within our facility. We commit to maximizing the value of your contributions to help those we serve and minimize any expense that does not directly provide benefits.

Both Holdrege Memorial Homes and the Holdrege Memorial Homes Foundation are 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organizations, and your gift is tax deductible subject to IRS regulations.
